Peptide storage & stability chart

How long a peptide stays good depends on two things: whether it is still a sealed powder or already mixed, and how cold you keep it. Look up one compound, or sort the whole list.

The short answer

Sealed powder lasts longest frozen (often a year or more). Once you mix it with bacteriostatic water, most peptides keep about 28-30 days refrigerated and should not be frozen. Mixed with plain sterile water instead, the window drops to roughly 24 hours. These are consensus ranges for research peptides - the chart tags every figure by how strong the evidence behind it is.

How to read this chart honestly

Published stability data for most research peptides is thin. Rather than paper over that with confident-looking day-counts, every figure here is tagged by its source. A label figure comes from an approved product's prescribing information. A pharmacy use-by figure is a beyond-use date a compounding pharmacy assigns - it varies by pharmacy, so treat it as their instruction, not a universal rule. A consensus figure is the range vendor and community guidance converges on; it is widely repeated but not clinically established. Where we could not support any figure, you will see a dash rather than a guess.

A wrong number here is a safety and credibility problem, so we would rather show a range and name its limits than invent precision. Each compound's row links to its reference card, where the full sources live.

The rules that hold across almost every peptide

  • Powder beats solution. A sealed, freeze-dried vial is far more stable than the same peptide once it is mixed - reconstituting starts the clock.
  • Colder is longer, for the powder. Frozen at -20 C or below keeps sealed powder longest; the fridge is a shorter-term hold; room temperature is really just the shipping window.
  • Once mixed, the fridge - not the freezer. Reconstituted solution is kept at 2-8 C. Freezing it risks freeze-thaw damage for many peptides.
  • Bacteriostatic water buys you weeks; sterile water buys you a day. The preservative in bacteriostatic water is what allows a multi-week window after mixing.
  • Trust your eyes. Discard any solution that turns cloudy, changes color, or develops particles, whatever the calendar says.

How long does a reconstituted peptide last in the fridge?

For most research peptides mixed with bacteriostatic water, community and vendor guidance converges on about 28-30 days refrigerated at 2-8 C. This is a consensus range, not a clinically established shelf life. Peptides mixed with plain sterile water (no preservative) are usually limited to about 24 hours. Compounding-pharmacy products carry their own beyond-use date - follow it.

Can you freeze a reconstituted peptide?

Usually not. For many peptides, community sources warn that ice crystals and freeze-thaw cycling can shear the peptide apart, so the reconstituted solution is kept refrigerated instead. A few sources describe freezing single-use aliquots, but repeated freeze-thaw is discouraged across the board. The unmixed powder, by contrast, is the form that stores best frozen.

How should the unmixed (lyophilized) powder be stored?

Cold and dark. Freezing at -20 C or colder gives the longest shelf life for the sealed powder - often quoted in the 1-2 year range and beyond - while refrigeration is a shorter-term option. Room temperature is generally only meant for the days-to-weeks shipping window.

Are these numbers official?

Only where a compound has an approved label or a compounding-pharmacy date, which the chart tags accordingly. For most research peptides, published stability data is thin, so the figures are the conservative vendor/community consensus and are labeled as such. Where no supportable figure exists, the chart shows a dash rather than inventing one.
