Do peptides need to be refrigerated?
The direct answer
Before mixing: powder is forgiving
A lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptide is a dry, sealed powder. With the water removed, the chemistry that degrades peptides is largely paused, so the powder is stable for months to years. It does not have to be refrigerated every second - which is how vendors ship it at room temperature for a few days without ruining it. But cold still wins for longevity: refrigeration is a shorter-term hold, and freezing at -20 C or below is the long-term option. Keep it dark, dry, and sealed.
After mixing: the fridge, every time
Adding water restarts the clock. A reconstituted peptide is a solution in which hydrolysis and aggregation slowly break the peptide down, and warmth speeds that up. Keep the mixed vial at 2-8 C. Do not freeze it - freeze-thaw can shear many peptides apart. The one thing you gain from mixing with bacteriostatic (rather than plain sterile) water is time: its preservative is what lets a refrigerated vial be used over weeks instead of a single day.
The exceptions
A few compounds do not follow the general pattern, so check the label or the compound card:
Tesamorelin (Egrifta)
Labeled for room-temperature storage of the unmixed vial (20-25 C), not refrigeration.
Thymosin alpha-1 (Zadaxin)
The ex-US label says refrigerate the unopened vials at 2-8 C, and use immediately once mixed.
GLP-1 pens (semaglutide, tirzepatide)
Pre-filled liquids: refrigerate until first use, then a labeled in-use window at room temperature (56 days for Ozempic, 21 days for Mounjaro). Never freeze.

Oral - no reconstitution or injectable refrigeration applies; keep it cool, dry, and dark like any oral compound.
A quick rule of thumb
If it is mixed, refrigerate it. If it is powder, cold is better but not urgent - and frozen is best for anything you will not use for a while. For the exact window on your compound, look it up in the chart.

Do peptides need to be refrigerated before mixing?
The sealed, freeze-dried powder is far more forgiving than the mixed solution. It survives the room-temperature shipping window of days to weeks, but it stores longest cold - refrigerated for shorter-term keeping, or frozen at -20 C for the long term. A few approved products are labeled room-temperature stable (tesamorelin), and a few are labeled refrigerate-only (thymosin alpha-1), so the compound matters.
Do reconstituted peptides need to be refrigerated?
Yes. Once mixed, keep the solution refrigerated at 2-8 C and do not freeze it. Brief time at room temperature while you draw a dose is normal; the vial itself lives in the fridge.
Will peptides be ruined if left out at room temperature?
A short excursion is usually tolerated, especially for the powder. Prolonged warmth accelerates degradation, and heat plus an already-mixed solution is the worst combination. There is no reliable way to measure how much was lost, so long unrefrigerated stretches are a reason to be cautious with an already-mixed vial.
