Near-identical esters
Both are the same molecule - testosterone - with a fatty-acid ester chain attached, dissolved in oil and injected to form a small depot that releases the hormone slowly as the body clips the ester off. Once the ester is removed, what circulates is identical testosterone. The only structural difference is the ester itself: cypionate has a slightly longer chain than enanthate, which is what pushes its release out a little further. Everything downstream - aromatization to estradiol, the rise in red-cell mass, suppression of the body's own luteinizing hormone and sperm production - is a property of testosterone, and applies to both.
The half-life gap, honestly
Cypionate's intramuscular half-life is about 8 days per the Depo-Testosterone FDA label. Enanthate is commonly cited around 4.5 days, but the source matters: the US labels do not print a numeric ester half-life (the enanthate label lists only testosterone's own 10-to-100-minute half-life), and the multi-day figure traces to a pharmacokinetic study in non-human primates - about 4 days in cynomolgus and 5 days in rhesus monkeys (Weinbauer 1990). A directly measured human enanthate half-life in days was not located in an open primary source here, and published human clinical citations range roughly 4.5 to 8 days. The practical point: the gap is modest, and both are dosed on-label every 2 to 4 weeks regardless.
What is the same
Both are FDA-approved for male hypogonadism at 50 to 400 mg intramuscular every 2 to 4 weeks, both are commonly supplied at 200 mg/mL (cypionate also comes in 100 mg/mL), and both are US Schedule III controlled substances. Both labels direct periodic hematocrit checks for polycythemia, both are aromatized to estradiol, and both suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary axis and sperm production at replacement doses.
