The direct answer

Cats are the highest-caution species here. Owners give the same peptides they give dogs - mostly BPC-157 and TB-500 - but cats process many drugs differently from dogs and people, and there is almost no cat-specific research on any of these. Everything is borrowed from dog and rodent data, in the animal that transfer is least safe for. None of it is an approved feline product.

Why cats are different, and why it matters

Cats are not small dogs. Their liver lacks some of the enzyme machinery that other species use to process and clear drugs, which is the well-known reason a number of medicines and supplements that are fine for dogs are dangerous for cats. That does not mean any specific peptide is toxic to cats - nobody has tested it - but it does mean you cannot assume a dog protocol is safe by shrinking the dose. The usual reasoning behind pet-peptide dosing, scale it to body weight, quietly assumes the animal handles the compound the same way. In cats, that assumption is exactly the one that fails most often.

The evidence gap is a canyon

For dogs there is at least pharmacokinetic data and a rich rodent literature to argue from. For cats there is neither. The studies behind BPC-157 and TB-500 do not include cats; the healing claims are rat data; and the handling data is canine. So a claim like "this dose is safe for a 5 kg cat" is not a cautious reading of thin evidence - it is a number with no feline evidence under it at all.

What owners hope it does

The goals mirror the dog list: wound and soft-tissue healing, gut problems such as IBD, appetite and condition in older cats, and skin or coat issues. Several of those overlap with serious, diagnosable senior- cat diseases - chronic kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, dental pain, cancer - that need a workup rather than a general repair peptide. Reaching for a vial can delay the diagnosis that actually matters.

The cancer caution applies here too

BPC-157 and TB-500 grow new blood vessels, which tumors depend on, so the standard advice to avoid them in an animal with known or suspected cancer holds for cats as much as dogs. Cancer is not rare in older cats. If anything about your cat's health has changed, that is a reason to see a veterinarian, not a reason to start a peptide.

Questions people ask

Can you give cats BPC-157 or TB-500?

People do, usually copying dog protocols, but cats are the species where that is least defensible. Cats metabolize many drugs differently from dogs and humans - their livers lack some of the enzymes that clear certain compounds - so dog-derived assumptions do not transfer cleanly. On top of that, there is essentially no cat-specific research on these peptides. It is off-label use of an unapproved compound in the animal we know least about here.

Is there any research on peptides in cats?

Almost none. The rodent studies behind BPC-157 and TB-500 do not include cats, and the small amount of carnivore pharmacokinetic work that exists is in dogs, not cats. Any dose or safety claim for cats is extrapolation, and cats are exactly the species where extrapolation from other animals is riskiest.

What do cat owners use peptides for?

The same broad goals as dogs: soft-tissue and wound healing, gut problems like IBD, kidney and appetite issues in older cats, and coat or skin conditions. But the feline evidence for any of it is weaker than the already-thin dog evidence, so the honest answer is that these are hopes, not established uses.

What is the safest thing to do for an older cat?

Start with your veterinarian, not a vial. Cats hide illness well and several common senior-cat problems - kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, dental pain, cancer - need diagnosis, not a general-purpose repair peptide. A peptide that grows blood vessels is a specific concern if cancer is present, which is not rare in older cats.
